Role Overview
Chevron is seeking an Offshore Automation Specialist – Advisor to serve as a technical authority and trusted advisor for offshore automation, control, and safety systems. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with strong coaching, mentoring, and capability development of the offshore maintenance workforce to sustain safe, reliable operations and long-term technical competence within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as automation/controls technical authority for offshore operations, ensuring alignment with company standards, OEM requirements, and design intent.
• Provide expert guidance for troubleshooting, optimization, and recovery of automation and control systems.
• Maintain control system integrity through disciplined documentation and change management practices.
• Coach, mentor, and transfer knowledge to national staff and trainees; support competency development programs and identify skill gaps.
• Provide hands-on technical support for PLC, HMI, SCADA, instrumentation, and industrial networks.
• Lead complex fault diagnosis and root cause analysis for automation-related failures.
• Support installation, commissioning, upgrades, backups, and configuration management for automation systems.
• Guide safe work execution through JSAs, permits, isolations, and risk assessments; support Management of Change (MOC) activities.
• Execute work management and reporting through SAP CMMS and collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Requirements
• Extensive experience in offshore automation and controls (oil & gas preferred).
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, instrumentation, and safety systems; ability to independently resolve complex issues.
• Hands-on experience with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix and GE systems including Mark VIe).
• Proficiency with HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., Wonderware, Cimplicity).
• Strong understanding of industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Modbus, fiber optics; managed switches/VLANs/redundancy advantageous).
• Experience with safety/protection systems (ESD, Fire & Gas, SIS including cause & effect and proof testing).
• Familiarity with flow measurement systems (ultrasonic/orifice/Coriolis, LACT and meter proving) and exposure to condition monitoring systems (e.g., Bently Nevada) is an advantage.
• Ability to read/interpret P&IDs, one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, and control narratives; strong documentation discipline (mark-ups, loop folders, configuration records).
• SAP CMMS experience for work execution and maintenance history discipline.
• Proven ability to coach others through troubleshooting (advisor/mentor approach), without relying on line authority.
